Bharathi Park - Review

Bharathi Park is a beautiful garden area in the middle of the town of Pondicherry. The pretty little park is visited by tourists and especially families for a refreshing break during a busy day of sightseeing. The design of the park is an ode to the French influence on Pondicherry.

The lush green grass, beautiful trees, the chirping birds and everything in between make it a lovely place to hang out in. Whether it’s a lazy late morning walk or a calm evening stroll, one will certainly love to explore this pretty park and all its beauty. The colorful flowers and the landscaping add to its charm. The structures and sculptures inside the park are beautiful.

On weekends you will find a host of vendors outside selling yummy street-food and toys for the kids. The park is probably the most important meeting point for locals after a long day. If you are looking for a spot to hide away in on a sunny afternoon, this is the one for you.

  • Good place for adult and kids to keep your body trim. Adults have their walk place where they can walk around park. there are benches where elderly people can sit and relax. At the same time, if you have brought your kids there, they cal also play there, since there are many kids play apparatus available. The park is maintained to satisfactory level, however, you cannot find flower plants. You cannot expect garden!

  • Central Park on Pondy? Just kidding!!! But is quite a bit place in premium real estate area. Has enough room to sit, rest, relax, walk and rejuvenate. Couple of kids play area is good. Good crowd and really good people!!

  • The perfect place for morning walkers. This place got beautiful garden view, people can explore the old light house constructed by the french. The War memorial and Pondicherry museum is also in walking distance. Its a nice peaceful place.

  • This is a nice park most of the time. But it's difficult to get here by foot from anywhere but the Promenade. The proximity to the waterfront though is an added benefit as it allows for good air circulation. The park also borders the legislative assembly and other government buildings ensures there is some sort of maintenance carried out and some semblance of security is kept. This could be said to be the heart of the French enclave in Pondicherry. From personal experience: there are a lot of drunk men loitering in and around the park, even in the afternoon. Seeing them nap is quite an experience to behold. The architecture (the arch in the middle) is well maintained but doesn't lend itself to active participation and engagement. The cannons might be more successful in that regard. The toilets in the vicinity could be better maintained/opened than they are at present, but I found a clean one which is a hard ask anywhere else in India.

  • Under development park. No entry fee. Good place for yoga. Also better place for married couples. No attractive games for kids. ( No Kids zone)
