The French War Memorial in Puducherry is symbolic of the alliance between France and India under which many Indian soldiers fought for the French Army and laid down their lives during the First World War. This memorial was built in 1937 and comprises of bronze plaque lists with the names of soldiers who died in the First World War and more names were added after the Second World War, French War in Indochina and Algerian War. The French War Memorial is a property of France and is decorated every year on Bastille’s Day (July 14th).
