El Cimatario National Park is a massive natural reserve located between the municipalities of Huimilpan and Querétaro. It was established on July 7, 1982, and since then has become a popular tourist destination since then. Sprawling across an area of over 2000 hectares, this place has a marvelous natural diversity. The Coyote, Polyborus plancus, Horned Owl and Tucan del Aviario can be spotted here. The white tail deer, badgers, migratory birds and pumas can be found in abundance here. Several trails weave through the park, but there are two main ones; the flora and fauna trail and the caves trail. You can indulge in mountain biking, hiking and rock climbing in this forest.

El Cimatario National Park Reviews & Ratings

  • This area is really good if you like long walks around a quiet place. There is a small lake and seems good to spend the day to the side of it with your family. The road that takes you to the top of the mountain is really long, so I definitely recommend going early to avoid the sunlight as much as possible and to carry plenty of water with you, or you can take the tour they give to take you to the top if you don't want to walk. IMHO the reserve really needs money to take care of the animals it has and to have publicity so it can get more visits. I would not have a problem if they charged a small fee ($10 or $20 pesos) in benefit of the park, it's sad to see the animals in a small place with a lot of sunlight and limited water. Maybe add some safe cooking areas and places to do sports other than walking/running. I liked the place a lot and the pictures you can get at the top are amazing.

  • Great place to get in touch with nature. Try wearing sunblock if you'll be there during the after as the heat gets a bit high. Riding bikes there is also lots of fun and adrenaline, especially when going back, as your start feeling weary. But still, taking the hidden roads is much better as they are challenging and rewarding.

  • Street food paradise! Typically place to visit.

  • 15” minutes from the down town to the forest park, near by there pools and water games for kids!! Nice place to see different type of animals

  • Great park for hiking. Cool views.
