This iconic 3 metre high sculpture is Puerto Vallarta's main symbol, but its story is somewhat funny. Called 'El Nino on a Seahorse' when first carved back in 1960, the sculpture was swept out to sea by a storm some years later. The sculptor Rafael Zamarripa obligingly carved an identical statue that was placed on the now famous seawall area. Then the original was recovered, re-established in its original location, only to be washed out again by Hurricane Kenna in 2002. Then it was found yet again, and this time, they set into a really large and heavy support structure. It's still there (for now).
