The Cuale River divides the city into the Downtown area in the north and the ZonaRomantica in the south. In the middle of the river, early in the 20th century, formed the island you see today. Bridges were linked to the island and it was gradually commercialized. The bridge from Grinch Gulch to the island is prettiest of all, and it offers beautiful views over the Romantic Zone. On the island you'll find a series of restaurants and small vendors selling various pretty trinkets, clothes and souvenirs - it is basically a cute handicraft market. There's a statue of John Huston, the filmmaker who made the movie 'Night of the Iguana' to which the city's fame is credited. Heading towards the Pacific side of the island, you'll find the Archaeological Museum of Cuale. Serene and colorful, the island is a lovely place to stroll.
