Dotterel Point Reserve is a unique natural preserve located in Pukehina. This place is a sanctuary to Dotterels an endangered species. They lay eggs in spring and summer, and their babies take three months to fledge. This beach is specifically dedicated to these tame and unsuspecting birds, as their nature has made them vulnerable to extinction. Over 18 pairs of New Zealand Dotterel live here, and the number has doubled over the past few years. It is also a popular site for oystercatchers. Visit this place to observe these birds in their natural habitat.
