How to Reach Punakha

Get in

Punakha has no airport of its own and you have to get on a plane to Paro- the only airport of the country. Drukair is the only airline that operates in the country and there are several flights from Thailand, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Singapore. The most exciting flight is the one from India via Nepal as you can get a glimpse of the astonishing Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Kanchenjunga. You can then take a taxi from the Paro airport to get to Punakha.

Alternatively, you can also take a flight to Indian city of Guwahati or the Bagdogra international Airport. A taxi will take you to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan.

Buses and taxis are available from Thimphu to Punakha at a reasonable rate. There are shared taxis which reduce the fare even more.
