Katraj Snake Park and Zoo or Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park as it is officially called is a popular spot for children. Well maintained premises and a good collection of animals, reptiles and birds mesmerize children and adults alike.

Situated little outside central Pune in Katraj, this place was opened in the year 1995. The 130 acre area of this park includes an orphan animal shelter, a snake park and the zoo.  It also is houses a huge 42 acre lake.

It has a variety of mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds. The zoo conducts a lot of festivals throughout the year to create wildlife awareness and campaigns against the ill treatment of animals.

This place plays an important role in the preservation of Wildlife. Around 100 workers are involved in the caretaking of rare animals brought to the zoo from all over the country. The park also aims to educate masses about the wildlife in Western Ghats and undertake research activities.

  • There are better zoos is the country with more animals. Nevertheless it's pretty much value for money with its snake park and battery operated cart. Kids will definitely enjoy and it would be better to take the battery cart(40 for adult and 25 for kids) else walking would take all fun and energy out. The zoo though needs more cleaner toilets and more battery operated cars. Appreciate the no plastic policy, relatively low entry fees of 25 per head. Car parking is very convenient at 30Rs per car.

  • Good place to visit...for adults ticket is Rs,.25 and for children below 4" height rs 1O and below that is free One are not allowed to take any plastic inside use jute or paper bags..cart is available for go around tickets are available inside..there are plenty of washrooms and water outlets ...roads are neatly maintained...no guide needed one can go around easily..foods are allowed inside to take but please don't feed the animals. Main attraction is the snake house which is real good and rest of the park are also good thereafter good time to visit is during afternoon in winter season... summer will be real hectic..

  • They have improved the park a lot now. You have a variety of animals, like tiger, lion, wolf, deer, antelope, gazelle, bear, porcupine and of course, the star attractions, the snakes. They have maintained a very beautiful park where you can go and walk and enjoy the animals and learn quite a bit about them. The snakes, I recommend to see first thing. I found the snake farm interesting, and the clarity of the display and information will most certainly help you identify and avoid snakes when outdoors. In my opinion this is the most important and practical part of the zoo. The zoo itself is clean and well kept.

  • Nice place to bring your kids for a day of outing. For recommended for families with small kid generally, since adult wont find it that amusing. Had to walk a lot so would recommend to take the in-house E-vehicle they will show u around the place as well as describe it properly. Good for organising picnic since a lot of shady corners can be found. 3-star because its far from the city and inside there is not much to see instead have to walk a lot, badly managed washrooms which stinks a lot.

  • It's been boring now to visit as rare animals are died. The Elephant is barely visible to people's though as hardly appear. You have to be lucky to spot the elephants because they are hidden beside the mini forest. It can be called as romantic place. Good spot for picnic or school trips. It's extremely inexpensive. Good place for photography. The place calm atmosphere and it's always cool there. It's covered with lot of tree's. They does not allow to take any plastic material to take in so be prepared. Food in plastic bag or wrappers is prohibited. Have a good visit.
