Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park, Pune Reviews
One of the most popular destinations to visit over the weekend is the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park located in Katraj. The park covers a large area and provide ample space to every animal they possess. Also the animals are well fed and people are able to view them except their sleeping hours. It is especially good for the kids as they get to see number of animals which they cannot see otherwise. The campus is covered by huge trees and has shade for most of the day. The snake park has a number of snakes as well as other reptiles, it had pythons as well as the cobras. Lastly just want to say that it's a nice, serene place which can make up for a good weekend spot.
Huge campus and many animals who are given huge and good area as compared to a zoo to live in. Looking at the coat and all, it looked that they are fed well and maintained as well. My kid enjoyed a lot. Lot of shady trees all over with battery operated car as well in the campus. Overall i think a nice serene place for day spending. The snake park was also impressive. Loved the pythons. Amazing collection of many habitat of snakes.
Very well maintained zoo. Large open spaces for all animals except elephants which I saw were only in small hut. Takes around 2 hours to see it completely. Parking is available just beside the zoo. In summer it remains open for an extra hour. Tiger is a star attraction here. Toilets and drinking water available at many places as you walk around. If required, you can also hire bus. A must visit place for kids.

A must visit place for kids. Very good place to take the whole Family and specially children. Many animals to see including Tiger, White Tiger and the Leopard. It has a separate Snake park with all the Reptiles on display. It has strict rules regarding eatables inside the zoo so it is a very clean place. Good to see families spending quality time. Parking will be an issue during weekends and public holidays so better go early or find a space on the paid parking lots on the opposite lane.
I wouldn't recommend visiting the zoo with children younger than 10 years. You will need to walk almost 3-4 kilometers inside the zoo to see all enclosures. Even then you will only be able to see various species of deer. No other animals are clearly visible. I can understand adapting the environment to the animal's need but they have taken it too far. And there are very few species of animals in the zoo, as I said, various species of deer, 1-2 tigers, 2 leopards, monkeys and 2 elephants, thats it. Other zoos like Mysore Zoo have far more animals. To sum it up, only visit the zoo if you want to spend time to see and photograph animals in fairly natural environment. Don't go with very young children.
