Aeropuerto Internacional Punta Cana, Punta Cana Reviews
I have traveled extensively for work and pleasure. Undoubtedly, this is the worst airport I have had the misfortune to use. It is completely disorganized. There is nearly no signage indicating where to go or what to do. Staff stand around with eyes fixated upon the tiles and carpet. The flow of human traffic is poorly controlled which leads to people constantly line-jumping. Climate control hardly exists here so that when you are waiting in the 90 minute customs line, you become ever more dehydrated in the tropical heat. Despite an enjoyable vacation in the DR, I may not come back due to the disaster that this airport is.
Overall, this is a really pleasant airport. Everything looks clean, well kept and new. Depending on the day you arrive and the day you leave, your experience with the lines and waiting will vary greatly. Some of the airlines deplane and you must ride a bus to the terminal, while others have gates going directly into the terminal. There's a universal $10 fee to every visitor, so theres a long line of checking and double checking that you paid that. You can pay online in advance, but that is a waste of time because you still must make the line and prove with a receipt that you paid. I like to just keep the $10 cash ready. After passing through customs and immigration you file out to the ground transportation. I recommend that you try to arrange your transportation with your hotel when you are planning your trip. Have a print out of your receipt for transportation ready. You just look for the desk with the same logo or name on your reservation. It is almost always done through a 3rd party. Don't forget to tip your driver. When you are departing, you get funneled through some really nice duty free liquor stores and often there are free samples. The prices are often as good or a little better than the hotel gift shop prices. The restaurants, like Wendy's or Nathans Hot Dogs are crazy expensive. Try to eat before you head to the airport if possible. The departure terminal is enclosed and well air-conditioned. Coming or going its a pretty happy place.
Terrible! Good arrival but terrible leaving you can barely hear what the people are saying on the loudspeaker and one second your flight can be delayed an hour and two minutes later you are boarding which in my case happened and it is easy to miss your flight. Don’t worry though if once you are on the plane everything is just fine. If you are going to Punta Cana I hope you have a great time.
Had a great experience arriving and departing from the airport. Arrival was quick and painless. They take you in a bus to the airport from the plane. The line was minimal but they do make you pay $10 per person. Departing was also quick although our flight was delayed. There’s a variety of fast food at the airport with lots of duty free stores. They had several tvs throughout the airport so we stayed entertained. The place is also well decorated with tiki huts, loved it!
Worst airport ever!!! If you wanna die dehydrated then come!! No air condition and hot as hell! My 2 daughters almost passed out. I felt sick after 30 minutes. Terrible. Avoid this airport! Next time I will fly to Santo Domingo airport instead.
