The Caribbean’s best kept secret, Isla Saona is a beautiful albeit tiny little island that lies at the south east tip of Dominican Republic.  It is a government protected natural reserve that boasts of unparalleled beauty and soft white sands that overlook turquoise blue waters. This island has caught the fancy of many film makers over the years. It is possible to spot a number of wild and exotic species of birds and animals here as this place is rich in wildlife.

The Island got its current name because of Christopher Columbus who chanced upon this beauty and named it after his friend. Explore this natural paradise and spend hours at this island discovering nature’s bounty in the form of rare fishes and incredible flora.  You can choose to have a drink at the open bar, dip your feet in the clear blue waters or just lie on the shady hammocks admiring the views. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Punta Cana Itinerary 7 Days.

  • My family and I took a trip to D.R. from 9/28/18 -10/6/18. We purchased the Saona Island excursion via our resort for 79.00 per person. This is with a diamond club members discount the original price was $99 pp I believe. This price included, an hour tour bus ride to the coast, a catamaran boat trip to Saona Island, lunch on the beach, 2.5hrs of free time to swim/tan, 30-45mins in the blue lagoon where you can see starfish, a speed boat back to main coast, and finally an hr bus ride back. Overall we had a really nice time. It is important to note this is an all day event. You will be worn from all the different means of travel BUT I do think the experience is worth it. I agree with many peoples opinions of the food. It wasn't what I expected. Its not bad but definitely could have been a lot better. The beach and lagoon were beautiful and definitely something to really behold. The one negative would be that there are locals who live on the island and they do hit you up on the beach trying to sell things. In my opinion they could make way more money if they traded in all that jewelry for a towel rental service as most people didn't bring a beach towel and none are provided.

  • Overrated... We bought a premium option, with lobster included. Catamaran sail was way too long and most people almost got sick. I didn't enjoy at all. Isle is beautiful and nice but food is very average and lobster is not my type a sea food ( I am glad, I will not be responsible for its terrible death anymore). At the toilet, the woman who worked there begged me for a tip ( I even didn't expect anyone there). I don't like the fact that everyone in that country wants a tip straight away. Beach looks nice, but bottom of the sea is rough so I didn't enjoy swimming. Waters are not that clear anywhere so you cannot see the bottom. Speedy boat experience was nice though. Everyone looked happy. Swimming somewhere on the ocean was much nicer. than on the island. But no star fish as they promised. It didn't bother me again- good for those little creatures. But another lie. In overall, average trip with some nice points. I recommend ground tours- much nicer and more interesting. And no shaky, shaky boats ;-). And vendors nagging you just when you leave your coach... And they always sell cheap stuff from China... 3/5 is still high...

  • The most beautiful beach that I have ever been to. White sands, the clearest turquoise and blue water, thick full green palm trees. On a clear sunny day with a gentle breeze this island is magnificent.

  • Beautiful Gorgeous Awesome. But just like the rest of my experience in DR. Food was over rated (by a ton) and if you look one inch from the resort..... Rules would go a long way too. There were topless fatties, not so fatties and kids. To see a woman topless in another country is one thing but not kids. Vendors are annoying and sell garbage. What a shame. It is so beautiful.

  • Excellent place for holiday!! Saona Island tour was one of the best tours we done during our 14 days honeymoon trip spent in Secrets Royal Beach Resort, Punta Cana. Absolutely loved it, and I do recommend it highly. Different people have different expectations resulting in a different ratings and reviews. Please go and visit the place, experience it and make your own opinions of it. Me and my hubby will be going back there for one of our anniversaries for sure!!! One of best holidays ever!!
