Spread over a vast area of 252 square kilometers, Zagatala State Reserve is tucked in the Caucasus mixed forests’ ecoregion. Spanning the Caucasus Mountains, the reserve is blessed with a rich biodiversity. While there is a variety of flora found in the reserve, it was established to primarily protect subAlpine plants and the natural complexes of Alpine and naval zones. While exploring the reserve, you will come across plants such as rhododendron, cherry-laurel, blackberry, maple, and fern. There are glacier and alpine meadows at higher altitudes. This flora is maintained by the rivers flowing through the reserve. The wildlife found here includes Syrian brown bear, forest cat, red fox, squirrel, weasel, Caucasian lynx, Indian wolf, and a wide range of birds. A place nestled in the lap of nature, it is perfect to escape the chaotic city life.
