This is a very famous and beautiful sanitarium area situated in the east of the city in the Shandong Province. The name Badaguan means “eight passes” as this place was made up of 8 avenues named after the 8 passes of China and later were added 2 more avenues. The name however remained the same.
Exotic trees and flowers grow along all ten avenues and the most special fact is that all flowers in each avenue are different from another and they also bloom in different seasons. This is the reason that gives this place another name, “HuaJie”. It means “flowery area”. Not only these but the garden like villas and foreign styled buildings are other features of this place. People from more than 20 different countries are known to have built houses in their own styles out here that we still see. After the Peoples’ Liberation, this place was rated as one of the most important sanitariums of China and many an important personality have spend good time over here.
