Basilique Cathedrale - Notre-dame-de-quebec - Review

No one had the remotest idea that what started as a small church in 1647 would be a one of the popular tourist attractions in the future. If the remains of the church could talk, they would have told a heck of a story- from battle damages to fires, there’s no telling what the church hasn’t experienced.

The Notre-Dame Basilica you see today, in all of its grandeur, is a result of the constant repair and renovation; after every work of repair and renovation, the church grew in size. The last expansion of sorts was conducted in 1952 and ever since, the Basilica hasn’t grown in size physically.

The interiors are worth a look though most of the original treasures of the church were lost in the fateful fire of 1922. The crypt makes for a nice tour, but you’ll have to sign up for a guided tour for that.

  • I honestly will say it was beautiful, it was packed that is for sure. A little too pricey for me but it was beautiful. It is cash only FYI!! Luckily we had enough Canadian cash. This was one of 2 stops in Montreal and I kind of feel like finding a bagel shop would have been more worth it but we ran out of time. Parking can be horrendous.

  • Magnificent Basilca. Evening light show tickets sell out so purchase online in adv. Light show set to music a bit on loud side but not uncomfortable. Spectacular light show a "must see" in visiting Montreal

  • Beautiful church, really preferred it over St. Anne de Beaupré. Attended a Sunday mass and caught a touring choir performance while walking by one night.

  • Ornate, Gothic church in the heart of Old City Quebec. Definitely worth the visit for the religious icons and architecture.

  • Amazing decorations filled with faith. A place for quiet times and meditation. You should visit when in Montreal!
