No one had the remotest idea that what started as a small church in 1647 would be a one of the popular tourist attractions in the future. If the remains of the church could talk, they would have told a heck of a story- from battle damages to fires, there’s no telling what the church hasn’t experienced.
The Notre-Dame Basilica you see today, in all of its grandeur, is a result of the constant repair and renovation; after every work of repair and renovation, the church grew in size. The last expansion of sorts was conducted in 1952 and ever since, the Basilica hasn’t grown in size physically.
The interiors are worth a look though most of the original treasures of the church were lost in the fateful fire of 1922. The crypt makes for a nice tour, but you’ll have to sign up for a guided tour for that.
- Guided Tours- CAD USD 4 per person.
- The entry to the basilica is free.
- Sainte-Famille / De Buade (bus stop)
- Cafe Buade
- Le Chic Shack
- Le Pain Beni

What an spectacular piece of architecture! So many impressive baroque features and art pieces to take in. A person certainly feels small standing under this vast ceiling and in this holy space. Very busy, but quiet. Gift shop I didn't stay too long, but expect this would be an extremely interesting structure to take a tour of.
Stunning! A work of art. Majestic and an absolutely must see even if you are not religious or catholic. Worth the drive from Quebec City .
Magnificent Basilca. Evening light show tickets sell out so purchase online in adv. Light show set to music a bit on loud side but not uncomfortable. Spectacular light show a "must see" in visiting Montreal

Ornate, Gothic church in the heart of Old City Quebec. Definitely worth the visit for the religious icons and architecture.
