About Basilique Cathedrale - Notre-dame-de-quebec, Quebec
No one had the remotest idea that what started as a small church in 1647 would be a one of the popular tourist attractions in the future. If the remains of the church could talk, they would have told a heck of a story- from battle damages to fires, there’s no telling what the church hasn’t experienced.
The Notre-Dame Basilica you see today, in all of its grandeur, is a result of the constant repair and renovation; after every work of repair and renovation, the church grew in size. The last expansion of sorts was conducted in 1952 and ever since, the Basilica hasn’t grown in size physically.
The interiors are worth a look though most of the original treasures of the church were lost in the fateful fire of 1922. The crypt makes for a nice tour, but you’ll have to sign up for a guided tour for that.

Basilique Cathedrale - Notre-dame-de-quebec, Quebec Reviews
Cameras are allowed. There is a small entry fee around 7 cad. Also church closes at 4:30pm sharp so you need to make it before that. Light show begins somewhere late.in in the evening around 6:30pm. Overall the architecture is amazing. The first floor is accessible to people and there are ongoing religious sessions where priests introduces the people to Christianity and key aspects.
For north america this is an outstanding piece of architecture. Music during service is beatiful.
Beautiful and serene! Located in Old Quebec in the heart of the area. Beautiful and serene. Open to the public without a tour, but I imagine a tour would provide you more history and background information.
Wonderful cathedral echoing European sensibilities. Plan on spending time there but be aware of closing times. The day we visited they closed at 3:00 pm.
Heavenly atmosphere on Sunday Mass. The congregation is in French but soak in the calm and invigorating atmosphere.
