About Skyline Gondola, Queenstown

For the best view of Queenstown, climb aboard the Skyline Gondola that will take you to the top of Bob’s Peak for a breath-taking panorama of the adventure capital of the world. Not only is the view from the destination picturesque, the journey to Bob’s Peak too is a real treat. Coronet’s Peak, The Remarkables and the Queenstown Gardens to name a few, are just some of Queenstown’s attractions that you’ll be able to spot.

One of the most popular activities here, apart from the dining atop the peak is the Luge Ride. From Bob’s Peak, hop on for a free airlift (by chair) about 100 m high for an 800 m Luge Ride down. The Luge cart is safe for all ages and you can enjoy a scenic view on the ride down and catch the airlift back to the starting line for another ride. There’s also a cultural Maori Kiwi Haka dance that takes place on the hill, the tickets for which can be purchased at the entrance.

Skyline Gondola, Queenstown Reviews

  • The Gondola ride was OK. However, you get some great views as you go up! Once you reach the top you actually have to climb down a little to get to the Luge ride. I did the Luge ride three times! You have to do the blue lane once and then can choose b/w the blue and the red. The red lane is more fun with some amazing drops, steep curves and a slightly longer route!

  • Massively overpriced in all areas. Amazing view. However can get similar views elsewhere. Staff at ticket box were great. The staff at the top and bottom getting on/off the gondola don't greet you. too busy talking amongst themselves. The ride itself is extremely clunky, not smooth at all. and its way too quick to even enjoy the view on the way up and down. if you're a solo traveller you'll get put in with others. Compared to Christchurch and other places in the world, extremely disappointed for the price.

  • I visited Skyline both Rotorua and Queenstown countless times. The service just got worse and worse and to the worst. I didn't want photos taken, for many years, they actually respected this decision as any reasonable person should. However, they chose to violate my right today. They took a photo of the back of my head, and actually had the guts to show it to me. When I said that's not nice, I just didn't want the photo taken. The rude answer was told by several staff, who surrounded me at the time saying - "It's our job" "Well. You don't need to buy it.". I mean, is it really relevant whether I want to purchase the photo or not? I just didn't want my photo taken. And, how come this company put their staff in such awkward situation? so their policy is - ignore customers refuse and just snap a photo as fast as you can? I just find it hard to believe. Besides, the dude in front of me waved his hand, and the "photographer" left him alone. What was the different treatments about? Will never go up there again. Just had enough.

  • Loved it. Great view, and the luges are awesome. Did it two days in a row. You really want to avoid the busier times, as elder tourists will clog up the tracks. Definitely would recommend though, one of the highlights of Queenstown

  • Would give zero if possible. If you are from the states, don’t waste your time. You’ve been on a cooler gondola than this. The ride up is 90 seconds to a “peak” that is lower elevation than the road you have to take to get to town from the north. This takes you to a glorified gift shop surrounded by a shoddy four foot observation deck that you will have to elbow twenty Asian grandmothers out of the way to get a picture from. The “luge” is a plastic cart with handlebars and breaks that takes you down a hundred foot track bumper to bumper with more Asian grandmothers. And speaking of bumper to bumper... finding a parking spot took us 20 minutes. I can genuinely say that the coolest part was the jelly bean mural recreations they had inside... For $35NZ this tourist trap is a waste of your time and money. Drive to the top of Lindis pass or Coronet peak for free and get a better view.
