The city of Raleigh is the capital of the state of North Carolina in the United States and the second most populous city of the State after Charlotte. The city is affectionately called the “City of Oaks” for its countless oak trees that line up the streets in the heart of the city. The city was named after its founder Sir Walter Raleigh, who established the lost Roanoke Colony in what is now called Dare County.

Raleigh, along with Durham and Chapel Hill is part of a Research Triangle Area, because of the famous and prestigious educational Universities they share within close proximity of each other. Due to early measures and good decisions taken by authorities, the city is a fine example of a well planned city though it has been growing at a very fast rate. Some very prominent universities and colleges are located in Raleigh and along with the well laid out parks and shopping areas, the city is a favorite for the people living in Raleigh and many have fallen in love with it after visiting it once.

Because of the various colleges here, Raleigh is known to be a city with lots of young blooded people who are very enthusiastic about sports and music, the result being seen in various arenas and venues like the Raleigh Convention Center where regular college and organizational level matches are held and also famous musicians and performers hold their gigs and concerts in the city. One can visit Raleigh any time of the year and witness multiple gigs being played at the various venues strewed around the city.

Though the economy of the city is centered on education and corporate giants, the city also sees a sizeable chunk of economy boost due to rapid tourism, as visitors keep flocking to the various amusement parks, natural wildlife parks and the shopping opportunities the city provides the people with. The city of Raleigh is an extremely fun place to visit in North Carolina and has so much of rich culture and history associated with it that it is sure to make you come back here over and over again.
