“The Father of Raleigh”- Joel Lane, built his house in 1769 in a very rural part of North Carolina and earned this title because he facilitated the location of North Carolina’s capital city on his very land in 1792. His house, the plantation manor was once called “The Best House for 100 Miles” and is a beautiful reminder of the old Raleigh Township. A visit to the house will surely transport you back in time and give some major nostalgia to anyone.

Joel Lane Museum House Reviews & Ratings
This visit was a planned stop. I had read a bit about the Joel Lane Museum and wanted to know more. We went on a 45-60 minute tour of the house and small grounds surrounding, guided by the museum director. He was very informative and gracious and obviously had a true interest in sharing what is known about Joel Lane and his family. We enjoyed this tour immensely and would recommend it to anyone with an interest in history and culture who is traveling in the Raleigh area.
Was a great experience! Our tour guide (Mike) was super friendly, knowledgeable and funny! This place has lots of history and worth the trip!!!
A very nice place to visit : you'll discover and learn a lot about this house and his precious owner (oldest house in Raleigh). This is really something to see. Moreover the guided tour is excellent and the guide (a passionate young student who knows a lot about the North Carolina state) is amazing. Don't miss this place.
