To properly recognize such a significant citizen of High Point, the Downtown Improvement Committee, began working on the John Coltrane Statue project in 2004. Thomas Jay Warren was commissioned to sculpt the eight-foot-tall bronze statue of Coltrane. The statue has received rave reviews from all who see it. On September 20, 2006, the statue was dedicated in honour of Coltrane’s 80th birthday. If you want to know the background history of John Coltrane’s life, you can read it from the kiosks installed, which also shares aspects of his music, both in word and sound.
