The Art Alley is basically just an alley in the busiest area of the city, that is Downtown Rapid City between 6th and 7th street, which has graffiti spray painted all over the walls. But it isn’t just mere street art. An initiative by the city, the alley has free-form graffiti murals intermixed with pop art, abstracts and other works which keeps on changing on the whims of the artists who paint here. Artists with great reputations and stunning skills have been allowed to paint whatever they desire on this particular alley. One can easily spare a few moments while taking a stroll through Downtown and be mind blown by the creativity of the artists.

  • Dope place with some powerful artists expressions. I went at 7:00 am on a Sunday. It was the perfect time to go because there wasn't anyone else there for a long time and parking was free. I ended up spending an hour there. As it got closer to 8:00 am there was foot traffic and people trying to park which blocks the walls more. Go early and enjoy the art work.

  • It was a nice place to walk through there is some amazing artwork to look at. Although I would suggest some caution. I was traveling with a niece and as two ladies alone we were immediately approached by an "artist" who wanted to lay claim to about 90% of the artwork only to end our guided tour with a request for money. I was polite but caught a couple of the other artist snickering as he tried to tour us through the alley. I have a feeling he may not have been an artist who did all that painting but more interested in a financial gain. But, it is very pretty and tastefully done, not just graffiti with no meaning and not any vulgarity, OK for kids.

  • So amazed! Wish there was more art around, including the town I live in. Impressed with artist & wish others would bless young artists.

  • What a surprise to be walking down a random alley and be greeted by a cacophony of color! Truly didn't see this coming. Must see in Rapid City!

  • Not as extensive or well kept as other alleys of similar nature, still good work though.
