About Reptile Gardens, Rapid City

This unique zoo cum wild Animal Park is definitely a treat for wildlife enthusiasts. It plays home to a wide variety of reptiles and unique plants that aren’t seen just everywhere. In fact the Reptile Gardens is the largest reptile zoo in the whole wide world with more number of reptiles than any other zoo or animal park. They have got snakes, lizards, crocodiles, komodo dragons and amphibians to name a few animals in their collection. Many of them have also been featured in popular TV shows too. They are very particular about getting their animals from zoos and not capturing any from the wild. This park may give some visitors literal creepy crawlies, but being so unique, is a treat that shouldn’t be missed.

Reptile Gardens, Rapid City Reviews

  • Sad place for reptiles, sure its a for profit organization but I was expecting a place that offered sanctuary for reptiles. The cages are the sizes of show boxes, and there is a lot of them. Even the boa constructors enclosure was small and they fit 2 in there! Enormous crocodile and alligator are sitting in small rooms with shallow pools. I felt horrible that they lived in such conditions. I would not support this place. The reptiles deserve better. Couldn't even bring myself to see the bald eagle.

  • I definitely enjoyed this place just as much as I did when I was little. Looking at all of the different reptiles and animals in general is pretty neat. I had forgotten that they had an area where the animals are loose and it's interesting watching them interact with people and other animals. I suggest going during the week as it wasn't overly busy while we were there.

  • Tons of parking. Our tickets was good for another visit while we were up here. We like the bird and snake shows. Our kids love seeing the turtles and snakes! Souvenir shop at the exit. It was a good visit overall! We were here for about 3 hours..

  • Lots of great memories from my childhood here! The same tortoises are still there 🤓Fall probably isn't the best time of year to visit but I wouldn't change it for anything. If you are visiting Rushmore this is definitely another stop that you should make. Their snake show us AMAZING and we got to pet a baby alligator.

  • Our family loves this place! The grounds are so beautiful and my kids love all of the different animals. The tortoises are their favorite, they love scratching their necks. I also love that being a local you get the season pass, and boy do we get our monies worth out of that.
