The Neonian Baptistery is one of the most ancient monuments of the city of Ravenna. It was commissioned by Bishop Urso and probably built at the beginning of the 5th century like the nearby cathedral. After many restoration works during the 5th and 6th century, the baptistery finally realized its current grace and décor. Decorated in tiers of marble, stucco and mosaics, this building is a magnificent piece of early architecture.

Baptistry Of Neon Reviews & Ratings
Beautiful expression of the Byzantine art. The dome is decorated with splendid mosaics and the lower walls with colorful marble. Built in the 5th century in times of Gala Placidia.
beautiful places with a very rich illustration of a mosaic in the middle which was very very long ago still beautiful and lazy as if it were new, and it already has several dozen centuries. beautiful ceiling and walls which you need to look at well as richly decorated with hand
We visited Ravenna for a couple days on our three week driving tour last year. Wish we had a couple more days. To say that the mosaic work in the churches exceeded our expectations is a serious understatement. Battistero Neoniano is a rather small structure but has a most impressive ceiling with a mosaic depicting the story of the baptism of Christ. Let your eyes adjust and enjoy the detail.
Unassuming place with the private Church that is beautiful.
The baptistery built to depict the Baptism of Jesus. At the left side of Jesus in the mosaic we see a man coming from the river Jordan signifying the personification of river jordan. The 4 altars below signify the 4 Gospels. A wonderful place to visit and be mesmerised by the lovely mosaics
