The Domus of the Stone Carpets (Domus dei Tappeti di Pietra) is one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the last decades in Italy. Discovered as recently as 1994, this site dates back to the Byzantine times and the Roman Republic too. A small palace was unearthed that had about fourteen rooms that were decorated with marble and mosaics and three marvelous courtyards. The marbles looked like carpets of stone and therefore the site was named after that. This site can be accessed from the Church of Sant'Eufemia’ that has museum exhibiting the various findings of the archeological site.
