The monument lies on top of the eponymous hill and park, a 1924 creation by the artist Einar Jonsson. It depicts IngólfurArnarson, who is thought to be the first settler of Iceland. He is said to have made landfall on 874. Apart from taking a few photographs and taking note of the surrounding buildings (Central bank of Iceland, the National Theater, the Culture house and the Prime Minister‘s office), there is not much to do here. Kids might enjoy the playground on top of the hill.
