What a cool stop! Beautiful small picturesque fissures off to the left of the back parking area. You can step right over small, 6 foot deep canyons on the trail. We could tell some of the poor Rangers here must be just burnt out from dealing with the sheer numbers of tourists because they speak very curt and have lost the characteristic wonder and awe for all of the beauty of the nature around you everywhere here. I guess Iceland is so full of nature lovers, we got so used to hearing bubbling respect and love for the wonderful locations in the voices of so many other guides at other places that we started to expect that 'excitement for what you do' from everyone. Not here. I would never have been allowed to speak to any customer at my job like I was spoken to here, and I have never felt that I needed to apologize for asking a simple question of someone who seemed bored and irritated by my existence. We had zero attitude directed at us anywhere else in Iceland throughout our whole trip. Sorry to be one of 'those' foreigners. We enjoyed the scenery of the quick stop very much so, but it was not worth the mood that was put on the rest of the day. I know I will be skipping this location when we return to Iceland, and that's a hard thing to say about ANY PART of this whole picturesque and glorious land..
Great lake to visit. Went in the winter so was a little cold, But very nice area.
A truly spectacular place with great views. You'll probably enter through Europe from one side and exit on the American side! This is made possible by the Eurasian and American tectonic plates on opposite sides, tearing Iceland apart at the rate of a few centimetres every year. The valley in between is new land. This place made me appreciate Iceland even more.
Amazing place surrounded by beautiful nature
