Founded in 1930, the Thingvellir National Park is also a historical site in Iceland. It is associated with the national Parliament of Iceland - Althing, that was established in 930 AD at the site. Located 40 kilometers to the northeast of Reykjavik, it is one of the most popular destinations in Iceland due to its cultural and geological significance. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the national park is considered to be an important attraction along the Golden Circle route in Iceland. A visitor center, an information center, a number of trails, and numerous campgrounds are a few of the features of Thingvellir National Park. Silfra Lake in the national park is also well-known for offering the best scuba-diving opportunities.
