Nautholsvik Geothermal Beach - Review

The Nautholsvík beach was opened in 2000 and is a popular beach destination in Iceland. The place consists of a vast lagoon and 2 hot tubs; geothermal water from Reykjavik Energy is forced into these 2 tubs and the sea as well. A part of the bay is open and is allowed to mix with the warm water – who would not want to dip into that?

The beach is conveniently structured with changing facility with locker services, a small cafe for beverages and snacks. One of the hot tub is located in front of the service centre, the temperature there is 38 degree Celsius while the second is in the lagoon with the temperature of 25-30 degree Celsius.

You can visit the beach anytime of the day; however the warm water and other services are present only during specific time. The beach is an ideal recreational centre for the young and the old alike. The beach is generally filled with visitors who are unwinding in one of the hot tubs, taking a stroll or kids running around – one thing common among all of them is the happiness after visiting this little paradise of Iceland!

  • So...the vents may or may not be pumping hot geothermal water. It's a weird, industrial area, but definitely recommend the hike around the bay.

  • Must go there when it is a sunny day

  • Great experience. Free in the summer. Very pretty - very local. Towels rented for 600 kr. Several areas to swim/sit at different temperatures. Hot water pumped into man made lagoon in the ocean. Changing room with showers. No lockers.

  • Beautiful little find in Reykjavik it's far out from downtown (40minute walk) but the beach is clean he hot spot is clean and all the facilities are clean. It's free all summer June 15 - August 15 and after those dates it's only 600ISK. Very local scene, a lot of cold water swimmers.

  • Cool location for swimming. Closed for Easter holiday April 14 - May 1 2017. Still a nice place to see the "beach". Excellent walking/biking path in the area.
