  • Rented a car from their downtown Reykjavik location and returned it the next day to their Keflavik Airport location. Pick-up was fast, in and out in about 10 minutes. Received a car one grade better than I reserved since the car level I reserved was not available. Car was relatively new less than 15,000 km and in good shape. I had heard that the company was very particular about damage to the car and apparently that was true. The agent indicated that there was damage to the right rear fender and it took me a while to spot what they called damage. It was about a dime sized mark in the top coat of the finish. The agent also found some new damage on the car before he turned it over to me. Someone must have scraped a curb or wheel stop when pulling into a parking space since the underside of the from bumper was scratched. I rented a number of cars in the U.S. and I don't think any of this damage would have been mentioned. Return was easy waited just a couple of minutes for an agent and the check-in took a few minutes more. No problems.

  • All car rentals in Iceland are slow. Ours took a good hour. Pro tip- fill out as much info in advance on your phone to speed up the process. Take photos of your car before you get in, just in case. Avoid extra insurance if you’re booking through Chase Sapphire or comparable card. Most important!! If you’re traveling with someone, split up ASAP when you arrive. Have one person go ahead and deal with the car while you pick up bags, cash and duty free. We waited 20 min for our shuttle bus then another 40 to get the car. Be forewarned.

  • My wife and I honeymooned to Iceland (2018). We wanted to go to the Into the Glacier tour and a few other things in the highlands so we rented a car for the last few days. I actually went through Expedia instead of direct and paid for insurance. Once there I asked about it during the check-out process and the clerk refused to even check and said that she didn't have us paying for insurance. I had to spend another 40-50 bucks to have insurance. Really annoying and I plan to take this up with both companies. I did find that pretty much everyone is nice in Iceland except the car rental companies. The car was good though. I preferred the 5 speed manual over the 6 speed that was also offered.

  • I am privileged to have been a patron of Sixt Rent a Car. As soon as I entered the building, I pulled my ticket with a bold 411. I looked up at the board to see that they were on 678. They must be counting backwards. How fun! It turns out the numbering system jumps around in seemingly a random order, so I only had approximately 50 people in front of me to pickup my car. Luckily, the two employees were completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of people waiting. I was genuinely thrilled that it took 3 hours before I got up to the car rental agent. I got to make so many friends. Some people were frustrated and angry, but the rental car office had incredible amenities. They had great walls to lean on during my wait, and the magnificent smell from the bathroom lingered for ages. They even served goat milk to us instead of getting our rental car. Amazing! During my 3 hour wait, I was praying to the Icelandic gods that they would bring me out a shiny red Ferrari. Instead, I got the sexy Opel Corsa. I nearly fainted when I saw its beautiful red paint. It blew me away. Overall, renting from Sixt was an unforgettable experience. I will be sure to share my adventures with everyone I know and spread the great reputation of Sixt Rent a Car.

  • A better way to tour the island than the bus and cheaper than a cab to the Blue lagoon. We hired with Tom who was very friendly and knowledge. We upgraded at a reasonable price and it was the best thing to do!
