Skogafoss Waterfall - Review

Skógafoss Waterfalls are one of the biggest and most beautiful waterfalls of Iceland. The Skógafoss Waterfalls are 60 metres in height and 25 metres wide and are situated on the Skógá River. On a sunny day, the spray from the waterfall creates a beautiful double rainbow. TO get close to the waterfalls, visitors are required to climb up metal stairs. There are hiking and trekking trails located at the eastern side of the waterfall that lead up to Fimmvörðuháls, a pass between the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. These waterfalls have been used as filming locations for many movies and music videos.

Skogafoss Waterfall, Reykjavik Reviews

  • One of my favourite but also one of the popular waterfalls. It’s easy to find and has lots of convenient parking and also some good facilities. There are well constructed steps to the top of the waterfall, if you fancy the climb. If you get the opportunity and have the time, continue the walk along the river for some great views. There is also camping nearby for those wanting to stay.

  • Nice tall waterfall. There are stairs on the right, so one can climb on top of it. Once there, the view is amazing and you have a choice to continue on a trail towards the mountains. Parking lot and restaurant are at the base. If you want to get close to the base of the waterfall, remember you WILL get wet, so dress accordingly. Have fun!

  • This was an amazing part of our trip I loved getting to walk behind the waterfall!! I would say that it was super easy until the end where you had to rock climb to get to the stairs. It was not a super difficult climb but it was not for the faint of heart either!!! Be sure to wear hiking boots and waterproof jacket and probably pants!!! Even with the difficulties I mentioned it was amazing and I wouldn't have missed it!!

  • magnificently spectacular skogafoss waterfall!! when the sun shines over the the mist from the waterfall, beautiful rainbow appears.. simply breathtaking!! its good to stay at nearby hotel and be there early to enjoy the beautiful work of mother nature before buses of tourists arrive. approximately 60 m high and 25 meters wide, you can walk right up the hill and be at the top of waterfall, be prepared to climb about 500+ steps of stairs my favorite waterfall in Iceland, so looking forward to visiting it again..

  • Beautiful waterfall. The water can find you quite far from the falls so make sure you have some kind of water proof clothes on. Walked up the stairs (around 550) to get to the top of the waterfall- splendid view again. You can open the gate on the top and walk along a path that takes you further back along the water flow... it’s a beautiful walk and you won’t regret the extra effort after the climb up the hill.
