Skogafoss Waterfall - Review

Skógafoss Waterfalls are one of the biggest and most beautiful waterfalls of Iceland. The Skógafoss Waterfalls are 60 metres in height and 25 metres wide and are situated on the Skógá River. On a sunny day, the spray from the waterfall creates a beautiful double rainbow. TO get close to the waterfalls, visitors are required to climb up metal stairs. There are hiking and trekking trails located at the eastern side of the waterfall that lead up to Fimmvörðuháls, a pass between the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. These waterfalls have been used as filming locations for many movies and music videos.

Skogafoss Waterfall, Reykjavik Reviews

  • Beautiful waterfall. The water can find you quite far from the falls so make sure you have some kind of water proof clothes on. Walked up the stairs (around 550) to get to the top of the waterfall- splendid view again. You can open the gate on the top and walk along a path that takes you further back along the water flow... it’s a beautiful walk and you won’t regret the extra effort after the climb up the hill.

  • A wonderful experience! Bring wet weather gear so you can get up close with the waterfall. After admiring the beauty from below, take the challenging walk up the stairs. Take your time and be respectful of others on the stairs. Walk the past the viewing area for another 1km. It will be worth the walk and it isn't as crowded.

  • Really nice waterfall on black sand. There is a big parking lot with toilet facilities. It's a very busy spot with tourist but didn't feel overcrowded. You can go close to the bottom of the falls and also walk up the metal steps to the top and have a nice lookout. The views up top are stunning as well.

  • So beautiful. The waterfall is unique in that you can walk underneath it and around it. It has points where you will get really wet so make sure to wear a rain coat. One of the best waterfalls were visited in Iceland!

  • Great waterfall which you can observe both from the top and the bottom. Approx 400 steps, rather slippery, to the top and quite steep. A trail takes you further up on the mountain if you want to. Very wet if you go to the bottom! A lot of tourists! The service was ok but not more. A few toilets, not to cleaned and highly charged, if you had spare money. A few seats to eat your lunchbox, the place should really do with more.
