Filerimos Monastery or just Filerimos as it is often referred to as is a lovely stone structure set amidst a verdant area a few kilometers from the main town of Rhodes. This monastery is a part of the Ialysos area but has become a tourist action in its own accord.
The lovely medieval monastery with its stone construction and domed arches is an absolutely delight to see and is highly recommended for anyone remotely interested in architecture or history. The 5th Century building and its Byzantine architecture stands out amongst a wild and green area that makes it a very refreshing and lovely sight. The winding road that will take you up to Filerimos hill where the monastery lies is a picturesque area and worth the trip by itself.
- A decent Public Transport system exists on the island but the stations are not easily available online. You can buy a transport map on arrival.
- La Bonita Restaurant.
- Royal Bar.

You need transport to get here as a very steep and long hill, which is very windy. Beautiful when you get there, you can go up to the cross for free which has great views, or pay 6 euros to go into the monastry. Worth a visit
Well worth the 6 euros to see the monastery Unfortunately the belfry is covered in scaffolding at the moment (15/9/18). Some of the other reviews say the monastery is very busy but we visited mid afternoon and it was very quiet.
Filérimos Monastery has a long history, but without a guide or at least some sign explaining the history of the monastery itself, the subterranean chapel, the (seemingly Italian) Via Dolorosa, it's all guesswork. So, bring a guidebook. Six Euros entrance fee gets you no explanation, but a look at all the above, plus lots of peacocks… and something that's worth much more than that: a place to calm down, to feel the energy of a location that has drawn believers of different faiths for millennia. And the view isn't bad, either.
Fascinating site, although be prepared for the monastery to be swamped with tourists, and a very long queue for the toilets! The cross-shaped, medieval baptistry, although not in good condition, is a wonderful and inspiring feature. Also look out for the Stations of the Cross along the path to the giant cross. And peacocks are everywhere.
Beautiful monestry with big garden. Mostly of the building and church is open for visit. Wonderful view and so cute that all the peacocks are walking freely. Absolute must to visit when in Rhodos.
