Apart from having a politically rich history, Richmond was also the hometown of one America’s most celebrated and renowned writer (posthumously as it might be), Edgar Allan Poe. The oldest building in Richmond has been turned into a museum, dedicated to one of the best authors linked to the Romantic Movement. The building surrounding the Old Stone House were added later to amass and display all of Poe’s Memorabilia in one place. The Edgar Allan Poe Museum is a beautiful tribute to the author and any literature buff worth their salt must definitely visit.

  • The Edgar Allan Poe Museum is a wonderful place to to visit while in Richmond. You will learn a lot of information about Edgar Allen Poe and see a lot of original works from him. There are two Black Cats that live on the grounds there that are extremely friendly. The gift shop here is small but has a lot of raven items here. The staff here are extremely friendly and very knowledgeable.

  • Very cool, very interesting, very unique sort of museum. It sheds a lot of light on Poe's life, the struggles he had, and his works (both before and after his death). Interesting type of museum, it's a small place, only requiring a half hour to explore it all. Definitely recommend when in the area.

  • They don't have guided tours, although they allow you to walk along the grounds. It's a reasonable price for what you get and the gift shop is ok, they don't have very many cool items but there is some stuff that is good. As far as the tour goes it was a cool tour and you get to see a lot of cool stuff, however only some of it is authentic stuff that Edgar Allen Poe owned or used. Overall nice place to visit if you are in the area and don't have anything else to do.

  • Love this place! Pluto and Poe (the two kitties that were born there) are so sweet. It's a self guided tour and when we went it was very quiet so we basically had it to ourselves. The gift shop is awesome and has reasonable prices.

  • I was only in Richmond for 24 hours a couple weeks ago and had only a few hours to spare before heading home. I decided to visit here. The staff were friendly, though really, the only person I interacted with was the greeter in the lobby/gift shop. It wasn’t crowded when I went in on a weekday afternoon and I was able to enjoy the entire museum in about 2 hours. I learned quite a bit, too. If you’re in Richmond and looking for something to do, just go. You’ll enjoy it.
