Poe Museum - Review

Apart from having a politically rich history, Richmond was also the hometown of one America’s most celebrated and renowned writer (posthumously as it might be), Edgar Allan Poe. The oldest building in Richmond has been turned into a museum, dedicated to one of the best authors linked to the Romantic Movement. The building surrounding the Old Stone House were added later to amass and display all of Poe’s Memorabilia in one place. The Edgar Allan Poe Museum is a beautiful tribute to the author and any literature buff worth their salt must definitely visit.

Poe Museum, Richmond Reviews

  • They don't have guided tours, although they allow you to walk along the grounds. It's a reasonable price for what you get and the gift shop is ok, they don't have very many cool items but there is some stuff that as good. As far as the tour goes it was a cool tour and you get to see a lot of cool stuff, however only some of it is authentic stuff that Edgar Allen Poe owned or used. Overall nice place to visit if you are in the area and don't have anything else to do.

  • Very accessible and interesting for adults and grade school children who like to read. It's not very big, but had some really nice historical relevance to the city of Richmond. Although, it is not a Poe residence, it really feels appropriate for the purpose, especially since he spent a significant amount of his life in Richmond. The staff are very friendly and helpful. You can easily complete the entire tour within an hour, and spend extra time reading in the library, and enjoying the courtyard.

  • What a cool find! Especially if you are a Poe enthusiast! Neat set up, different buildings in use to tell each portion of his life. Nice little reading room and gift shop, even two black cats wandering the courtyard that say hello! Small parking lot on side of building that blessedly free, too!

  • This is a small little Museum that tells a lot about Poe! You will not spend a lot of time there, however, there is a lot of information to get from there. There were a total of 3 buildings to go to, however each one was not as large as my living room. We were there about an hour and we read every single thing that was there. Young lady working the desk at the gift shop was exceedingly friendly nice and helpful.

  • Self guided tour of learning about Poe's past. Some places can be a bit claustrophobic depending how many are within the house, but understandable due to type of buildings. Very informative and got to learn some new things. Garden area was nice.
