Apart from having a politically rich history, Richmond was also the hometown of one America’s most celebrated and renowned writer (posthumously as it might be), Edgar Allan Poe. The oldest building in Richmond has been turned into a museum, dedicated to one of the best authors linked to the Romantic Movement. The building surrounding the Old Stone House were added later to amass and display all of Poe’s Memorabilia in one place. The Edgar Allan Poe Museum is a beautiful tribute to the author and any literature buff worth their salt must definitely visit.

Poe Museum Reviews & Ratings
Cool museum and courtyard. They have some fun events. Especially around Halloween. I know someone that had their wedding here. Went to a few “Unhappy Hours” when I lived near there. Always a good time. There are cats that live there in the courtyard. The gift shop is awesome. Lots of cool and funny items. I would stop by just for the gift shop.
Absolutely loved the museum! Took the 11am guided tour and learned so much! Definitely suggest taking the guided tour, there is a lot of information being given, a personal touch of research given by the guide, and Mr. Knight even recited experts from poems and stories based on the era in Poe's life. We really enjoyed our time and took some great pictures.
Absolutely astonishing museum dedicated to one of the greatest poets there was. The layout is straightforward and simple. It is very difficult to miss anything there is to see. There have many artifacts from Poe's life. They range from a childhood bed to small lock of his hair. Not much more to say than that. If you are in the area it is very much worth a visit!
Very nice little museum lots of Poe artifacts and snippets of information about his life that one may not necessarily learn elsewhere. Definitely paints a different picture than our 6th grade English textbooks. If you enjoy his many works, this is a great place to pay homage to one of America's great authors!
Let me start this by stating, I LOVE EDGAR ALLAN POE. If Edgar Allan Poe were running a race, I'd be a the finish line with my big glittery GO EDGAR ALLAN POE sign and probably even a matching t-shirt. I wrote my college thesis on Poe, I've read countless stories, and have always been an admirer. So with that said, here are my thoughts on The Poe Museum: It was a little smaller than I thought (or maybe than I had hoped for) but the person I went with couldn't believe that I expected them to have any more stuff than they did. The things that they did have were really cool though (vest, socks, desk, chair, bed, etc) The buildings were pretty cool - old with lots of charm. The courtyard was definitely a huge selling point, it was absolutely gorgeous and I can see why The Poe Museum is a popular wedding spot.
