Being the county seat of Jefferson County, Idaho, Rigby is a city with a total population of around 4,000 (as of the 2010 census). Founded in 1884 by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the city was incorporated in 1903. Since William F. Rigby was a church member and a prominent early settler, the city was named after him. Rigby is spread across an area of 2.36 square miles and has an elevation of 4856 feet above sea level. The place features Rigby High School as the primary high school inside the city, and the Rigby citizens primarily work for the federal government or the Idaho National Laboratory as federal contractors.
