Avenida Atlantica is a long stretch of walking area that runs next to Copacabana beach, between Copacabana and Leme. The area comprises of two car lanes, a bicycle lane and a promenade. The promenade is a great place for an evening walk and is designed in a wave pattern. There is a military base at each end of the avenue, the Forte de Copacabana in Copacabana, and Forte Duque de Caxias in Leme. The area is lined with numerous buildings, restaurants and cafes. Every year a large New Year’s Eve celebration takes place along the whole stretch of the avenue that attracts hundreds of visitors. The area is also a venue for several sporting events and concerts.

• If you visit here in the day wear sunblock and carry a hat.
• Pedestrians should keep off the bike lane.
• Avoid strolling here late at night if you are alone.
