Jardim Botanico - Review
The ‘Jardim Botanico’ or Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro has a serene landscape that offers respite from the city. The garden is home to hundreds of varieties of flora from Brazil and around the world. Set on 140 hectares, the park is home to several bird and small animal species. There is a Visitor’s Centre on the premises where one can plan how best to explore the lush greenscape. There are also several water bodies and fountains around the garden. The shade provided by the trees and comfortable park benches make for a nice place to sit and relax. There is a children’s playground for kids under 10 to play. Other highlights of the park are the Old Gunpowder Factory, the Victoria Lilies in the Lago Frei Leandro pond, the Amazon Region and the Japanese Garden. Some other attractions worth checking out nearby are the Parque Lage and the Escola Parque. You will also find several sculptures located around the garden. This place is not very crowded and is mostly visited by locals and families on the weekends. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Rio De Janeiro Itinerary 5 Days.

Jardim Botanico, Rio De Janeiro Reviews
Absolutely beautiful. This is a must visit if you are in Rio. The entire place is gorgeous and full of wildlife. The monkeys are awesome. It really does feel like your a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of Rio. The restaurant is great (although slightly more pricey than outside the gardens). Worth noting that your entrance fee gets you admission twice in one day so you are able to pop out and grab a bite to eat or a coffee locally. It’s a wonderful area.
One of the best places in Rio to get out of the stress that are the beach neighborhoods with their huge apartment buildings, lots of cars and lots of people. A place to relax and understand that you're in a tropical rain forest that is also a city. Good place to see monkeys(especially in winter) and tucans. Don't forget to see the Japanese garden near the old main entrance and the big 5 meter high Afro-Brazilian Saint in the back corner behind the bromelia house.
Definitely worth a visit if you are in Rio. From a botanical sense there wasn't a huge amount to see which was of interest but that is most likely due to the time of year (mid April). The wildlife was very interesting to see though with monkeys, colourful birds and Capybaras. From a landscaping perspective, the little bridges, fountains and plan tree avenue were also good to see. Entrance fee was R15 and staff at entrance spoke English.
Beautiful and great fun to walk around - there is a huge amount to look at and take in. Give yourself a lot of time to really enjoy the atmosphere of the park and don’t forget to look out for the monkeys (they were in the mango trees during our visit). Our personal highlights were the cacti and orchideria. An absolute must visit with excellent drinking fountains and toilets around the park, as well as places to eat.
A fantastic location to get away from the noise and business of Rio. It's a lovely walk enclosed with incredible views of Rio's sprawling vistas and local wildlife. There are some beautiful pieces of art dotted around the gardens to break up the green which only adds to your experience. There is a cafe situated at the far end of the garden is a great stop off to get some food and drink.
