The Masmak Fortress is made of clay and mud-brick and is located in the heart of Saudi capital, Riyadh. Founded on stone blocks, this fortress has thick walls and four watchtowers. This old fortress was built by the prince of Riyadh Abdulrahman ibn Sulaiman ibn Dabaan around 1865 and played an important part in the country’s history as it was here that Riyadh was recaptured in 1902 by Ibn Saud. Today, this fortress is open to visitors in the morning and evening except for Friday mornings.
