  • This is an excellent forested hike over a stone mountain. Great open views from the top. Several trails to choose from. Public restrooms and picnic tables and an office, but not much else that I noticed. There are a couple of nice streams and we saw a waterfall and a shallow cave. There might be more. There is also a small, quaint historic site with a few buildings and implements and informational plaques.

  • We loved this park! Be ready to climb a ridiculous number of stairs if visiting the waterfalls. Not kidding! We made it down to the Stone Mountain Falls but I couldn’t visit those lower (Middle and Lower Falls) because the climb back up was too much for me. Absolutely beautiful trails. Good width for walking side by side. There is a summit trail which has nice overlooks. So much unique beauty here. I highly recommend.

  • Another fantastic NC State Park with a great family campground and superb hiking. The loop trail makes a good family day outing at 4.5 miles in length with some fairly significant elevation to attain. I might suggest hiking it counterclockwise as the stairs on the west side of the mountain are a pretty good slog if you don't have your hiking legs. I think the stairs up from the waterfall are probably a little easier. Pack snacks to enjoy at the summit.

  • This park is great. I have gone the last two times I was up that way to see my parents. The first time my wife and I hiked the full loop. Wow! There were so many steps. We started at the upper parking lot and went counterclockwise around. The only problem with that was the stairs going up from the bottom of the waterfall were at the end of the hike. Next time we do it, we will start at the lower parking lot and go the same direction. Finishing going downhill rather than uphill. Along the 4.5 mile loop there are many vantage points as well as an early mountain homestead and the waterfall to see. The second time we brought the kids and found a spot where we could play in the creek. Great way to cool down, and you know it is clean and fresh. It will definitely be a place we go back to on future trips. I am especially looking forward to going in the fall, the view will be amazing.

  • This is a great park to walk and hike. My dog wasn't able to make it up to the top of the mountain but he did his best. There were other dogs who were hiking like troopers. This is a great place to go with friends or family.
