Spread over 15 acres, this excellent zoo is home to about 90 species of animals. Opened in 1894, it’s quite old. Most of the animals here are from the planet’s temperature and polar regions - penguins, sea lions, cranes and lynx. They have large water tanks too, and you can view the more amphibious animals, including the polar bears, swimming through the the glass walls of the tanks. Visit the park’s website if you want to check out their catalogue of animals. The zoo also conducts research, conservation and educational activities, and visitors and welcome to involve themselves. There are events organised throughout the year. It’s nothing special if you’re an adult going alone, but it’s absolute delight of a place if you’re taking kids along.

Seneca Park Zoo, Rochester Reviews - Write a Review

  • An amazing zoo that is fun for all ages. The expansions that have taken place in recent years put the Seneca Park Zoo on a par with may larger city zoos. And it continues to grow and get updates. The zoo is long, sloped and narrow so bring a stroller for kids as you need to walk uphill on the way out. Great staff! We go back frequently.

  • I've always loved this zoo even as a child. Went the other day with my niece and it was very quiet. Not many people were there because it was chilly but it was lovely just to walk around, I wish they would update some more of the older enclosures.

  • Pretty cheap ticket prices. We went after the renovations so everything looked very nice. Many of the animals don't appear to have a lot of room to roam which kind of bothered me. They literally had four elephants in one enclosure that I don't believe was a suitable size for just one of them. I know that's pretty standard at most zoos but that's just my opinion. Other than that, everything was good - the snacks were tasty and the gift shop had a few interesting products.

  • Absolutely love it here! We stay for hours. I'm proud to contribute to an accredited zoo. They do so much for conswrvation. We're really excited for the expansion, especially the red panda! If you don't want junk food then pack a lunch. You can still use one of the many tables. It's nice to sit in the shade on a hot day. The kids like to splash in the creek. My daughter and I are really excited for the sleepover next to the polar bear and sea lions! Definitely check it out and get a membership.

  • Drove about 2 hours to get there but it was worth it. Loved the animal exhibits. Animals looked well taken care of. Looking forward to coming back in 2018 when the new animals get there :)
