This isn’t a long visit, but it sure is an intimate one. The zoo is enclosed within the shady and cool botanical garden, which are a great boon during the searing Australian summers. Come early and and check out the gardens first at sunrise. They open at six, so you’ll have two hours before you need to enter the zoo to visit the Japanese Gardens, the Desert Gardens, the Murray Lagoon and the Garden Tearoom. Once you go off to the see the animals, there are specific sections clamouring for your attention. The Reptile Area, the Australian Walkabout (mostly birds and kangaroos, even a Koala) and Furry Friend (mostly monkeys and apes). It’s a lot of fun packed into a very small package.

  • Wonderful place to relax and roam around. Tropical garden is top class. It's inspiring to see how a tropical garden thriving here. Birds, birds, birds.. Natural beauty. Has a small play area for kids and a covered barbecue area next to it. If you love nature it's a must visit place. There is also a well kept zoo which is free to visit, yes it's true, it's free. Don't forget to carry gold or silver coins for donation (donation box next to kangaroo area), as I couldn't go without appreciating the effort. If you carry some duck food, you or your little ones can enjoy feeding all sorts of birds near the lagoon towards the car park (parental advice - some are real naughty ones so keep an eye on your little once as they flock in, they don't attack but won't mind following you till you feed them) and please don't feed bread, it's harmful for birds. There is tea and snack area where you can enjoy feeding a bunch of colourful birdies. Great place to walk if your are health conscious. Enjoy

  • Stopped in at the visitor information centre and spoke with a wonderful gentleman named James who offered to take some photos for us🤗 So glad we stopped otherwise we would’ve driven off and not stopped at the Rockhampton Zoo!! What a cute little zoo, there is a baby Chimpanzee here too, the first one born here in 40 years.. omg it’s so cute💓🍃⛰🦋🐛🐨🐵🦎🐊

  • Not as much gardens as I expected. Thought there would be more flowers but it was still a nice walk and with the zoo filled in my afternoon well. So happy with the experience.

  • The gardens here are amazing, there are so many different areas covering different themes, the Japanese garden is also very peaceful. A great place to bring the kid's there is a great playground and a zoo with amazing animals and best of all free. Cafe has good food and a great view if you can deal with all the birds :-)

  • Used to live in Rockhampton. The gardens have made great improvement to its enclosures and range of animals here from when I was a kid. It's fantastic and my son loved it. Fantastic place to spend a day with family
