Maccheroni, Rome Reviews

  • We made a reservation at this restaurant after reading the great reviews and the food was amazing, BUT, they sat us on the room where the kitchen is and I couldn’t believe how hot it was. All the people that were seated on that same room were all using the menus as fans and sweating a lot. We ordered and kindly asked the waiter if it was possible to turn on the ceiling fan or some AC because the temperature was simply unbearable.. he told us that the fan didn’t work and that the AC was on (of course it wasn’t). It was literally hotter inside than outside in the hot summer night. A lot of people left without even finishing their plates because of the room temperature. When we left, we spoke to the manager and told him that we would’ve loved to stay for dessert but the hotness was just unbelievable. He vas very rude and got mad because of our comment, and simply answered: “well as you can see there is the kitchen which explains the heat and also the AC and fan are broken so that is that”. It’s too bad because instead of doing something about it or switching us to another table, all of the waitresses we spoke to and also the manager, were simply unresponsive and incredibly rude. Their food is great but there service is simply terrible!! Never again.

  • Very good food only 5 minutes walk from the pantheon. If you are a foodie try to have a seat near the kitchen to warch the chef making the pasta. Recommending to try the ravioli with zucchini flowers and the pasta with white sauce (white wine, bacon and goat cheese). Excellent value for the money.

  • A nice place that relies more on (the great, really amazing) location than on the management's effort to offer a great experience. Pasta is ok (not great, not poor, just plain ok) and non-pasta dishes are a bit below par. Waiters kept forgetting orders and (as it is common practice in Italian restaurants) never even tried to apologize or make up for their forgetfulness. Limited list of wines and spirits. Prices are in the average. Overall, I would not say "don't go", but I would certainly argue that the (amazing) area offers better choices.

  • Very crowded place (with tourists, not only locals). Very friendly staff ("theatrical" to a point that may annoy some people). The prices are ok. The portions are average to large. The food was tasty but a little bit heavy. They charge a lot for water but they just bring tap water which I consider a little ironic :)

  • Fast paced, down home cooking. Waiters are busy and don’t hold your hand, but are attentive to your needs. Great place to feed the family and have food like Mama used to make. On my family’s must go to list. Maccheroni all’ amatriciana is amazing!
