One of the most impressive thermal complexes built in Rome, these baths date back to 298 and 306 CE and span over an enormous area of 13 hectares. With a capacity to accommodate up to 3000 people at a time, this Bath complex comprised of gymnasium, library and swimming pool spread over 3500 square meters and various rooms for bath.

The rooms were categorised into the frigidarium (cold bath), the tepidarium (lukewarm bath) and the calidarium (hot bath). The latter spacious rooms were converted to Basilica of Saint Mary dei Angeli by Michelangelo.

These baths also serve as the prime seat for the Museo Nazionale Romano or the National Roman Museum. The exhibit focuses on Proto-history of Latin people, Epigraphic section featuring the written communication in Roman world.

Apart from the museum, visitors can also explore Aula Decima which is the big tomb of Platorini and two chamber tombs decorated with frescoes and stuccoes from the Necropolis of the Via Portuensis.

Don’t forget to take a stroll in the Michelangelo’s Cloister of charterhouse which houses 400 artworks like statues, reliefs, altars, sarcophagi, all coming from the Roman environs.
