Initially built by Julius, the Teatro di Marcello was completed by Emperor Augustus in 11 B.C. What is strikingly different about the theater is its semi-circular design which is unlike the completely circular designs of Colosseums traditionally seen.

However, this Theater is almost 85 years older than the popular Colosseum in Rome! The Theatre of Marcellus is one of the best preserved and oldest theaters in Italy and even though maintained in its original form, a Pallazo was added to the structure in 16th century which now serves as apartments.

Although entry is prohibited, the place welcomes everyone with open arms to be appreciated from a distance. Walking the ruins completes the Roman experience.
