Waimangu Volcanic Valley - Review

A must see attraction when visiting Rotorua, the Waimangu Voclacanic Valley is said to be the youngest geothermal system. Many highly rated and internationally acclaimed geothermal features such as the Inferno Crater Lake and the rather appropriately named Frying Pan Lake dot the valley. There are various trails for you to explore, with a free guide to inform you about the particular structures and its history. The walk it self is rather surreal, with picturesque surroundings and exotic bird life.

Waimangu Volcanic Valley, Rotorua Reviews

  • One of the most beautiful and amazing place on Earth. A must visit to North Island. I would give her 6 stars! The park is well maintained, the staffs are friendly, the tour guides are informative and everything here are superb!!

  • Amazing place, buses are included in the ticket so you can walk the easy portions and ride the bus for the more difficult portions. We went in the winter so some of the paths were damaged but the buses were still running so we were still able to see most of the attractions. There is also a boat ride at the lake.

  • Very nice and diverse. Frying pan lake, craters, terraces, lake all worth seeing. It is worlds youngest geothermal natural system and you can feel it there, steam is behind every corner

  • Plan to spend most of your day here because there is so much to see. If you want to see real volcanic activity in New Zealand, take a tour through here. There are several tour options ranging from boat tours, walking tours to combinations of the two. We did the walking tour and it was awesome. It took us about 4.5 hours to do the whole park, including the side hikes. There are even side hikes you can do that are actually fairly challenging, but doable for most people. I recommend doing them though because the side hikes are worth it. There is even a section of the valley that includes a lake that doubles as a bird sanctuary.

  • Waimangu volcanic valley is awesome. We really enjoyed the bubbly and smoky sceneries and we learned a lot thanks to the useful signs posted along the way. We were litterally the only visitors at that time and that sure did add to the experience. The bus driver was also super friendly.
