Soaring into Rouen’s skyline is the massive iron spire that rises from this cathedral; this is not a building you should have much trouble finding. The spire briefly made this cathedral that tallest building in the world was not the only feature to capture Claude Monet’s imagination as he painted the flamboyantly Gothic building over and over again. The first church on this site, from 396 AD, was destroyed and replaced by Normans; the remains of the 1096 Norman church can be seen in the crypt. The current building was completed around 1250, but the façade and other additions were made over the passing centuries. The Tour Lanterne was added in 1876.

  • In my opinion, the facade is much more impressive than the Notre Dame in Paris; the amount of detail is just stunning. If you're in Rouen, you can't miss it. I had the privilege of listening in on part of a Sunday mass, and it was beautiful.

  • Amazing structure which I found during roaming in Rouen. It was closed at that time as I saw some kind of restoration work was in progress. But exterior was astoundingly magnificent. Lot of open space available outside of this Church to spend leisure time. Tourist center is opposite of this church. Lot of eateries are located around.

  • Beautiful worth visiting it is breath taking it is close to a 1000 years old and one the most important Cathedrals in France. Monet painted it several times his flats were in what's now the tourist center. Also has a light show.

  • Beautiful city with plenty of buildings, squares and churches to visit. Also an ideal location when traveling in France.

  • Stunning building to look at both inside and out. The detail of the architecture is just amazing! The first time we visited there was an Easter service going on which was nice to listen to but we were restricted on what we could see. We came back another day for a better look around and were not disappointed!
