Newbold Comyn Golf Course Reviews & Ratings

  • I have lived in the town for 20 years, and played golf twice. I walk, run or cycle around the outside of the course at least once a week. Since the golf course shut it has been wonderful to walk across this open space. The ridge and furrow farming from hundreds of years ago is clearly visible. Whether the golf course comes back (which may be the best thing, I don't know,) I will always remember this period when we were free to roam.

  • Municipal course, with dog walkers and such always around it. Would advise to play elsewhere!!

  • It's a great municipal golf course with fantastic views from the top of the hill. If you're not a golfer there's a footpath around the course that makes a good walk for you and your dog. And either way the Newbold Comyn Arms is a lovely place to enjoy a drink afterwards. With a nice little play park for the kids and a talented kitchen team for food you can't really go wrong.

  • As an occasional golfer and definite newbie, friends have got me playing here regularly. Compared to others I have played, it is certainly worth a visit. A good range of angles and contours (it is quite steep in parts) keep it interesting, and the fairways are generous enough to allow some leeway for weaker players like me. It is inexpensive, beautifully set with mature trees (not too many in middle of fairways), several holes afford views across the town and countryside. Though ground staff do their best, the underlying clay means it can be muddy in parts. For £10 (senior concession, I think)) give it a try and make up your own mind.

  • Pitch and putt off. Went for a game of pitch and putt. The first thing the guy taking the green fees said was “it’s not very good” but we could play as many holes as we liked and that it was only £2 each. It turns out not very good means completely unplayable. No flags, no tee off markers no maintenance. Every green was so small and filled with divots I thought it was the tee off, until I saw the hole next to me. So we left £2 worse off. Not a lot of money, but the course should be closed and they shouldn’t be taking money for it.
