The diverse terrain of Balcones Canyonlands of the park is complimented by deep canyon, dense forestry, high mesas, carved limestone cliffs and limpid streams. Located on the southwestern side of the Edwards Plateau, Garner State Park dates back to the Cretaceous age when Dinosaurs ruled the earth. The towering Bald Cypress trees lining the Frio River and the Texas Madrone with its bell shaped white flowers and berries are the notable flora of the park. You can sight Golden Cheeked Warbler and Black-Capped Vireo in the Oak and Juniper woodlands. Swimming, geocatching, paddle boating, canoeing, biking and summer dancing are the popular activities other than hiking.

  • Beautiful place to go with the family. The water was beautiful the scene itself was absolutely breathtaking would definitely go back there. Maybe even have our wedding there. Who knows? I do

  • Nice state park with some cool history and an old mission to tour through. Very hot from May to October for camping but still very nice. Staff is friendly and helpful. Cool little souvenir store when you check in. This park is always clean and we like it a lot. The only thing that keeps me from 5 stars is their showers and bathrooms. They need updating and they need more of them.

  • Garner State Park was probably one of the most relaxing places I've ever been the clear green blue water was fantastic the hiking was great once you find your way around the park it's a great experience. The staff was nice the park was very clean.

  • So much fun. Summer time Saturday dances for the family will take you back in time. Kayaking, hiking, fresh country air, paddle boats, snow cones, and much more. You won’t be disappointed whether you go for the day or camp out. Old school camping with water only, water/electricity sites, RV, cabins, shelters, are all available to rent for a nominal fee. I recommend visiting this wonderful place for a fantastic time in nature.

  • New Gardner side is very quiet and peaceful, the river was kind of low where we camped at 455 but had a nice low area to be able to sit and chill in the water. Would be great play area for kids. Old garder side was busier but had rope swings and both shallow and deep spots in the river. Each side of the park was great. Would highly recommend.
