My wife and I had our day date in Old Sacramento this past weekend and it was so much fun.. The costume shop was my favorite, you gotta go upstairs to see all the amazing costumes for sale. I just wish there were more shops open. Seems like the candy store is always closed. We loved the leather store called Leather Works and both of us bought items there. It's the only place my wife will buy her belts
Enjoyed walking around looking at shops, the boat and trains, eating above average food and good drinks. Really liked the historical buildings but most of all, three shop owners we spoke to were so nice and had several stimulating conversations with them, plus advice to go to the Crockett museum. Really worth the time to explore old Sacramento.
I've been coming to Old Sacramento since 2000 and it's literally just salt water taffy and novelty t-shirt stores over and over again. I wish that this place focused more on the historical aspects of Old Sacramento, rather than turning it into the riverfront equivalent of Pier 39 (with a train museum rather than an aquarium.) You're basically obligated to bring out of town guests here because there's not a whole lot to do in Sacramento after visiting the capitol. If it's after 6, almost everything is shut down. Would not recommend unless you're driving through already.
It was a wonderful trip. I was here for business and my coworkers brother took me here. We had a blast the view at night was beautiful. The shops were a blast it is definitely a must see.
It's a cool place to see when you are visiting Sacramento. There are plenty of places to eat; such as Rio City Cafe on the river of Fats City. Lots of shopping and different types of stores and of course plenty bars to stop and grab a drink. If your lucky, you will visit when they are having one of the many festivals they host in Old Town.
