Frank Lloyd Wright, often called the greatest American architect of the 20th century, designed structures that were in harmony with humanity and its environment. All his creations, from the Guggenheim to his mostly completed ‘Kraus House’ in Ebsworth Park, were physical embodiments of harmony with both the environment and the human sense of aesthetics.

The Frank Lloyd Wright House, also called Kraus House, was the home of Russell and Ruth Goetz Kraus and the initial design was conceived in 1950. took about 10 years to complete and though the house was never formal finished, the Kraus’ lived there together for 40 years. Upon the death of his wife, Russel Kraus sold the house in 2001 to a non-profit organization formed for the specific purpose of saving it.

  • The structure is famous for its architectural reliability and its unique architectural design. The house is a mid-century vintage prairie-style home with a triangular plan; that can be seen with the roof and patios too. Some of the windows are original stained glass while others look like they were used to shoot arrows out at invaders!
  • You can book a tour, which will give you the privilege of exploring the house and listening to the stories behind the man and his creations. The architect strongly believed that even middle class Americans should have affordable but well designed homes. This philosophy of his is reflected in every nook and cranny of the house.

Whether you’re a fan of architecture, of Frank Lloyd Wright or just a casual observer, you’re sure to appreciate the amount of thought that went into every aspect of this beautiful home. Plus, surrounded by the lushness of Ebsworth Park, you’re sure to have a pleasing time.

  • A great place to see Wright's work. All the furnishing are original to the house and architect. Our tour guide was was interesting and well informed.

  • This was my first time touring a Frank Lloyd Wright house and I had lots of fun. The tour was very informative; the lady giving it was very enthusiastic about showing the house to us. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you enjoy architecture, interior design or American history.

  • Frank Lloyd Wright's Unique Parallelogram Design is a revelation! You have to see the intricacies involved in this design if you respect and admire his design.

  • A small lovingly restored home. A fascinating example of the Wright design inside and out. Lots to see.

  • I love FLW and this house did not disappoint at all. The docent was knowledgeable but cKept adding too many "I think this was what he was thinking..." comments, and very repetitive in her explanations. Since it's such a small house (rooms are extremely small) possibly only having no more than four people on a tour is a good idea. It was very tight having three teenagers and 11 adults in there. House and scenery beautiful.
