The Anichkov Bridge is essential viewing for tourists when in St. Petersburg, not just for its excellent vantage point but also for the unique history behind it. The bridge is arched with facades of pink granite and the cast iron railings have fantastical images of mermaids and seahorses. It is the oldest bridge across theriver Fontanka river. Worth noting are the four statues that flank the bridge, especially the statue of Horse tamers that is intricately crafted with great attention to detail.
Legend has it, when the Germans were advancing on the city, the local population decided to bury the four statues in a nearby location. Once the 872 day siege was lifted, the horses were dug up and replaced on their respective plinths. It is interesting stories such as this that make this bridge such a must visit.

Beautiful river view bridge. You can even the boats from there to explore more. Enjoy 😊
I love it at first sight. Amazin view with the river and cruises. At night, its view is more out of this world. I really love it.
My favourite bridge. Stunning. I could stare at the statues for hours. When the Fontanka froze I went and walked on the ice and it looks beautiful from the ice. Equally stunning on the pavement or by boat in warm weather. Highly recommend the trip up Nevsky to see it
This is a famous bridge in St. Petersburg that crosses the Fontanka River along Nevsky Prospekt. It is a relatively short crossing that is decorative and features four landmark sculptures of horse tamers. Constructed in 1841-42, the bridge features appealing iron railings. However, the highlight is seeing the four large horse tamer sculptures, which were installed at the two ends of the bridge between 1849-50. These are individually impressive works of art, particularly for those who enjoy viewing sculptures and statues. Note: The Anichkov Bridge and its sculptures are particularly nice to see when viewed from the opposite bank to the pink coloured Beloselsky-Belozersky Palace. If you position yourself correctly, you can capture all in the same frame, allowing some decent pictures to be taken. In the end, we liked the Anichkov bridge. This is a quick attraction to view and enjoy if you find yourself in this area of St. Petersburg during your visit to the city.
Beautiful. Panoramic. Helluva crowded)) If you turn to the right side of bridge down the river and walk on the boardwalk there is a lot of impressive architecture.
