The Tsarskoye selo is a palace complex that oozes grandeur, exquisite lifestyle and impeccable architecture. The grounds of the palace were under the Russian territory but were captured by Sweden in the 17th century- known at that time as “Sarishoff” or “Saarismoisio”.

The palace dates back to the early 18th century and with the royal construction got the name of ‘Tsar’s Village’. From 18th century till the early 20th century, the place served as a summer palace and was converted to a museum in 1917. Today, the place is one of the most important structures to study ‘park-palace’ designs and is visited to appreciate refined Baroque and Classical designs etched in every inch of its grand structure.

The central Catherine Place is loved for its Russian Baroque design- the highlights being the ‘Great Hall’ and the ‘Amber’ room filed with rare art pieces.

Other highlights include:

  • Apartments that include the Emperor’s State Study
  • The park element that range from Chinese, Turkish to Gothic styles spread across its vast space along with beautiful bridges, statues, and pavilions.
