  • Room 303 is big and comfortable and has a nice view of the mountains. It also has a kitchenette. The location is central to down town. It has a free nearby parking lot a block away. The staff was nice. It was very clean. The delivered breakfast that was included has a yogurt parfait with granola and fruit. Also freshly baked muffins and orange juice. Half (milk) and half (cream) was also provided for in-room drip coffee.

  • We stayed in the only family suite. It was great in just about every way. Recently remodeled in a modern style. Very reasonably priced for a king, sleeper and full kitchen in the heart of downtown. Perfect for a small family. The park across the street is a bonus with kids. Includes private parking and a private entrance, which were great, but also a little quirky. The shower leaked all over the floor. A soggy towel on an otherwise great stay. Recommended.

  • Such a great place to stay with so much within walking distance. Great suite and everyone is so nice

  • Approximately 12 hours before my arrival date at the Palace Hotel, I called the hotel to ascertain if I could obtain an early check-in time. I was told that that was probably not possible, even though it was a Friday, and most people are checking in on that day, not checking out. However, I did not dispute the clerk's word who told me that he would call me if I could obtain an early check-in time. When I called the hotel from Buena Vista (where I went to kill time) at approximately 3:00 p.m., I was told that the early check-in had been available since 2:00 p.m. even though I wasn't called. I was still 30 minutes away! When I arrived at the hotel, neither of the 2 keys I had been given opened the locks to the door of my suite. (There was no problem with these keys approximately 2 years earlier when my partner, and myself stayed in the same suite, which we loved). The only way I could get in to the suite was the clerk who helped me with my luggage (who I need to say is a Prince), forced the door open. When I went to dinner that night, I could not lock the door! From that point forward, I could not leave and lock the door which is an extreme safety issue!! At approximately 3:00 a.m., the next morning, I woke up freezing because the air conditioning had not shut down in my room even though I had hit the "off" button on the remote control unit. When I called the hotel manager, Mr. James White, he told me how to reprogram the remote control. He also told me to put some blankets on. However, I still could not turn the A/C unit off, and I couldn't sleep through the rest of the night due to the frigid conditions. When I showered the next morning, I discovered that the bathroom heater didn't work either. The hair dryer was also broken. Furthermore, I noticed that when I walked around barefooted after my shower, the soles of my feet were completely black, and in the light of day, you could see blackened, grimy, sticky build-up of dirt on all of the wood floors!!! The throw rugs were also filthy!!! The next morning, I waited until 8:00 a.m. to leave, when the lobby was supposed to open up, to address these concerns with Manager White. As of 8:10 a.m., when the lobby still was dark, I asked the clerk who helped me move in if he could find the manager, which he did. That morning, I had wiped my feet with a wash cloth to show Mr. White how filthy the floors were in my suite. Once I showed this wash cloth to him, he became completely antagonistic towards me, and accused me of making the floors and rugs filthy even though I had been there for less than 24 hours, and I was a return customer that he had given me a written thank-you to when I arrived!!! When I requested that he waive my payment for the next two nights since I couldn't stay in the hotel under these conditions, he indicated that he would only refund my money if he could find someone to take my suite, which he indicated would be very difficult. This is in spite of the fact that when I checked in, I heard the clerk taking 4 wait-list reservations for any rooms in the hotel since it was during the Salida Arts' Festival!!!! As of this post, my credit card has been charged for all three nights. This is a hotel that was charging me approximately $250.00 a night. I would expect better service from a Super 8 Motel.
