The Joseph Smith Memorial building, built in 1911, was initially Hotel Utah. Completely restored and re-opened in 1993, the building now houses a theatre, cafe, restaurant, Family Search centre and conference rooms. The building is majestic like its legacy; it is an architectural masterpiece complete with renaissance accents. The lobby is ornately decorated and soothing piano music plays throughout day to welcome visitors. • Went out here with my son between General Conference sessions. First off, "The Roof" has a fantastic view of Temple square. You can see all the LDS patrons as they exit out the conference center. It was a perfect day for every event taking place. The staff consistently stopped by to ensure we were comfortable and needed anything. The food selection was fantastic. Our waitress knew their selections well and have great recommendations what to get next when I asked. I'm so glad they are open between conference sessions to make it a wonderful experience. Foods and desserts are well worth it.

  • We ate at the cafe here and then explored interactive family history area. It was fun being able to take pictures with the family in front of so many different backgrounds. We had fun for the short time we spent there.

  • It’s a beautiful building and is offered to the public for events such as wedding luncheons and receptions. I had my wedding reception here and so did my cousin. There are various rooms to choose from, and mine was in the Empire Room on the main floor. I didn’t have to work with the staff, but the reception was good and people seemed to like the place.

  • Visited The Roof restaurant on the 10th floor for our anniversary. Gourmet buffet style absolutely delicious! Amazing view of the Salt Lake Temple, Temple Square, and state capital. Attentive staff, but not too pushy. We never felt rushed. Live piano added beautifully to the evening. Pricey but worth it for a special event.

  • Beautiful building for parties and meetings. Great restaurants. Theater showing films to get to know the Latter-day Saints better. FamilySearch discovery center for fun family history experiences
