The Joseph Smith Memorial building, built in 1911, was initially Hotel Utah. Completely restored and re-opened in 1993, the building now houses a theatre, cafe, restaurant, Family Search centre and conference rooms. The building is majestic like its legacy; it is an architectural masterpiece complete with renaissance accents. The lobby is ornately decorated and soothing piano music plays throughout day to welcome visitors. The theatre at the building started by showing shows related to the Mormon legacy and now plays movies about Joseph Smith who was the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement.

Historic location with beautiful architecture and magnificent food selections. Packed to the brim during Christmas season, but for good reason. Great location for wedding lunches and receptions, though that can be expensive. The Roof offers delicious fine dining, and the Garden restaurant is just as good but without the selection as the Roof. Offers the best view of the salt lake Temple, and one of the best guess 3 of salt lake City.
The roof has the best prime rib in town. The new chef changed the classic bread pudding recipe which was very disappointing. That was one of the reasons we would come here. It now has a crust on the top which I didn't care for...kind of like a crisp. Great hot chocolate too. (This last visit we came in Dec of 2018.)
This was a really neat experience I highly recommend anybody to go here to view the beautiful sights and grounds. We try to make this a yearly tradition at Christmas time and it is a really good family outing. The Joseph Smith Memorial Building is pretty amazing especially when you look at the ceiling and the chandelier and all the customized design.
If you got married in the Salt Lake temple, this is the perfect place to go for an anniversary! Beautiful views. Just make sure to make a reservation and let them know that it's your anniversary. That way you get the gorgeous view of the Salt Lake Temple.
Went out here with my son between General Conference sessions. First off, "The Roof" has a fantastic view of Temple square. You can see all the LDS patrons as they exit out the conference center. It was a perfect day for every event taking place. The staff consistently stopped by to ensure we were comfortable and needed anything. The food selection was fantastic. Our waitress knew their selections well and have great recommendations what to get next when I asked. I'm so glad they are open between conference sessions to make it a wonderful experience. Foods and desserts are well worth it.
