The Igreja De Nossa Senhora Do Rosario Dos Pretos, a part of the historical district of Pelourinho is a declared UNESCO World Heritage Site. Said to be built for the slaves, by the slaves, the church is held in high esteem when the topic of slavery and the subsequent freedom comes up. The church is now being acknowledged worldwide for it handiwork on the altars and the overall architecture after it was renovated. The main point of interest here are the statues of black saints that the people prayed to then. The African spirit of resilience and worship is not unknown to many and to experience it first hand, you must attend a Sunday mass if you can.
